Do Lose Weight Fast Diets Really Work



There is no doubt that there is great appeal to try a diet plan that claims you can lose lots of weight quickly. And there are lots of those around. But do these lose weight fast diets really work?

Well, the answer is yes and no. Here’s why.

Follow any diet that severely cuts back on the amount and the types of food that you usually eat and you will experience a drop in weight almost immediately.

An example of a diet that restricts certain foods is any low carb diet, like the Atkins. An example of a diet that severely restricts calories is the cabbage soup diet. There is many more of each kind and chances are if you’re a dieter, you’ve tried at least a few of them.

So “yes”, you will lose weight fast with those kinds of diets. And that weight loss will continue until your metabolism catches up to the new diet. That’s where the “no” comes in.

Once your metabolism adjusts, the rapid weight loss slows down and may even stop completely. And to be realistic most of the weight you lost initially is really just water. You’ll find that out when you go back to a normal diet.

Many dieters discover that all their efforts at weight loss have been for nothing because the pounds quickly re-appear. And because your metabolism is now operating more efficiently, it is burning fewer calories. So you have to work harder just to maintain your weight.

Lose weight fast diets do have their place. Sometimes you just need to lose a few pounds right away. And in the short run they can work. Just be aware that this type of diet is not really a healthy or even a long lasting way to lose weight and then keep the weight from coming back.
